Giro: Rain Causes Multiple Crash, Stage ‘Neutralized’

Naples: Heavy rain caused a multiple pile-up on the sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia Thursday and the stage was subsequently ‘neutralized’ with riders cycling safely and surely behind the director’s car.

According to Ansa News Agency, the general crash occurred in the center of the group, with several riders on the ground. The slippery asphalt, due to rain, led to the jury’s decision to ‘neutralize’ the 227km stage from Potenza to Naples, which is this year’s longest stage.

Among those involved was Jai Hindley, winner of the Giro in 2022, who appeared in shock and withdrew from the race after boarding an ambulance. At the time of the stop, Paleni and Van der Hoorn were in a breakaway with a 50-second advantage over the group. Now, all riders are proceeding at a controlled pace behind the management car.
