Giorgetti Warns Against Exceeding 10% Tariff Threshold on EU Goods
Rome: Going too far beyond 10% on tariffs is unsustainable, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on United States President Donald Trump’s threat to impose 30% tariffs on EU goods on August 1.
According to Ansa News Agency, Giorgetti emphasized the importance of reaching a reasonable compromise on tariffs during an event celebrating the 165th anniversary of the Corriere Adriatico newspaper. He stated that negotiation must be tireless and that concessions should not be made.
Giorgetti further stressed that the previous 10% tariff threshold was reasonable, and exceeding this figure would render the situation unsustainable. His comments highlight the potential economic strain that increased tariffs could impose on both the EU and the global market.
