Gaza Ceasefire Deal Announced, Trump Credited for Proposal

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni on Thursday announced that the Gaza ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas is in place, acknowledging United States President Donald Trump for his proposal. “The agreement reached in Egypt to implement the first phase of President Trump’s Peace Plan is extraordinary news that paves the way for a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces along agreed-upon lines,” Meloni stated.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni expressed gratitude towards President Trump for his continuous efforts to end the conflict in Gaza. She also acknowledged the mediators-Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey-for their crucial roles in achieving this positive outcome. Meloni emphasized the importance of all parties respecting the agreed measures and swiftly implementing the next steps in the Peace Plan.

Meloni firmly stated that Hamas should have no future role in Gaza and highlighted the need for reform within the Palestinian National Authority on the West Bank. During an interview with Rai TV, she spoke about the significance of the truce and the release of hostages as essential conditions for initiating a peace process, alongside the initial withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Furthermore, Meloni addressed the necessity of Hamas’s disarmament, the prevention of new settlements in the West Bank, and the transitional management of the Gaza Strip. She called for the international community, particularly Arab countries, to play a role in ensuring a temporary government.
