Gattuso Announces First Azzurri Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Rome: Recently appointed Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso on Friday named his first Azzurri squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Estonia and Israel. Italy is set to return to action on Friday, September 5th, in Bergamo against Estonia, followed by a match on Monday, September 8th, in Debrecen against Israel.

According to Ansa News Agency, Gattuso, a former AC Milan and Italy midfielder, will make his debut as coach in Bergamo. He has selected 28 players for the training camp scheduled for Sunday at the Coverciano Training Center. Notably, Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni, Bologna midfielder Giovanni Fabbian, and Inter Milan striker Francesco Pio Esposito have been called up to the national team for the first time. Additionally, Gianluca Mancini and Gianluca Scamacca have been reintroduced into the Azzurri squad, marking their return more than a year after the European Championship in Germany.
