Furlani in Tears, ‘Magical Year, but Just the Beginning’

Tokyo: Mattia Furlani gave a joyful and tearful TV interview after winning the long jump at the world athletics championships in Tokyo Wednesday saying it had been a magical year after also winning the indoor worlds at Nanjing but this was “just the beginning”.

According to Ansa News Agency, the 20-year-old Italo-Sengalese from Marino near Rome expressed disbelief and emotion in the interview, stating, “I still don’t know if it’s real. I won’t believe it until I hear the national anthem. Something magical happened tonight. We managed the competition perfectly, we adjusted everything jump by jump until we achieved this incredible result.”

Furlani expressed gratitude towards those who supported him throughout his journey. He specifically mentioned his mother, fianc©e, sister, and the support from all of Italy. Despite his success, he emphasized that this achievement marks just the beginning of his journey.
