Four More Victims of Workplace Accidents in Italy

Rome: A spate of fatal workplace accidents continued in Italy on Monday, with four men losing their lives in separate labor-related incidents in Turin, Rome, Monza, and Sicily. The tragedies highlight ongoing concerns regarding workplace safety across the nation.

According to Ansa News Agency, the first victim was a 69-year-old worker of Egyptian origin who died when the basket of a crane he was working in fell in Turin. Another victim was a 40-year-old worker who fell from scaffolding in the province of Catania, in the town of Riposto.

Further incidents included a 48-year-old worker killed at a factory producing industrial valves in Monza. Initial findings suggest the man was crushed by machinery. In central Rome, a man was also crushed to death by a machine while working on the banks of the Tiber.

Workplace deaths remain a significant issue in Italy, with Premier Giorgia Meloni’s government prioritizing health and safety improvements. According to the workplace accident and occupational illness insurance agency INAIL, workplace deaths in Italy rose by one last year, totaling 1,202 as reported in its annual report in July.
