Forza Italia Affirms Pro-Europe and Atlanticist Stance: Tajani

Rome: Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Thursday emphasized that the centre-right Forza Italia (FI) party, which he leads, remains firmly pro-Europe and Atlanticist, while maintaining loyalty to the current government. Tajani asserted that the party is committed to its values, particularly regarding European unity and collaboration.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani’s comments came during a European People’s Party (EPP) summit, where he responded to inquiries about Premier Giorgia Meloni’s recent controversial statement. Meloni had expressed that the 1941 Manifesto of Ventotene does not align with her vision for Europe, prompting questions about the government’s stance on European integration.

Tajani clarified his position, stating he would not participate in an anti-European government, and reaffirmed that Meloni’s positions are indeed pro-Europe. He further highlighted FI’s advocacy for a common European Union army, contrasting with the League’s opposition to such an initiative. Tajani’s remarks underline the party’s dedication to European cooperation and its Atlanticist orientation, signaling a commitment to transatlantic relations and collective security within the EU framework.
