Foreign Minister Szijj¡rt³ Engages in Phone Talks with Israeli Counterpart on Middle East Crisis

Budapest: P©ter Szijj¡rt³, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, engaged in phone consultations with Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa’ar to discuss the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Minister Szijj¡rt³ assured that the Hungarian government is actively working to support its citizens residing or traveling in the affected region.

According to About Hungary, Minister Szijj¡rt³ emphasized that the government is not aware of any Hungarian citizens currently in distress due to the conflict. He stated that 860 Hungarian citizens have registered for consular protection, with most located in Israel and some in Jordan and Iran. Hungarian embassies in the region are maintaining an extraordinary on-call service to assist citizens at any time, providing necessary information regarding travel opportunities and other concerns.

Minister Szijj¡rt³ expressed relief that no Hungarian citizens are currently in trouble, noting that the consular service’s crisis management platform is operational and capable of maintaining communication with citizens in the region. He also shared details of his conversation with his Israeli counterpart, during which they discussed Israel’s recent air strikes against Iran. Szijj¡rt³ was briefed on the reasons behind these actions, which Israel justified due to concerns over Iran’s nuclear program.

Minister Szijj¡rt³ reiterated Hungary’s interest in restoring peace in the Middle East, emphasizing the importance of securing the rights and safety of all people in the region. He expressed a desire for Middle Eastern citizens to regain a peaceful life without the constant threat of terrorist and rocket attacks.
