Fire Near Olbia Airport, Flights Diverted

Olbia: Some flights were diverted after a fire broke out near Olbia Airport in Sardinia Thursday. The airspace over Olbia has been closed due to a large fire that broke out in the Su Trambuccone area, near the Sassari-Olbia highway.

According to Ansa News Agency, the “Costa Smeralda” airport remained open, and many planes took off even after the fire broke out because the emergency only affects the inland area and therefore the area where aircraft pass through to land. Geasar, the airport management company, claims that incoming flights are currently being diverted to Cagliari, Alghero, and Rome.

Almost all aircraft that were at the airport have left the Gallura airport.
