Fincantieri Envisions Small Nuclear Reactors on Ships
Udine: Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero has announced plans for the Italian company to build ships powered by small nuclear reactors. Folgiero spoke about this vision during a round table discussion held in Udine.
According to Ansa News Agency, Folgiero highlighted that nuclear power, utilizing smaller reactors, could extend beyond submarines and aircraft carriers to be used on smaller vessels like cruisers and frigates. He emphasized that this innovation could set Fincantieri apart globally.
Foliero mentioned a project named Minerva, which aims to explore the feasibility of integrating new-generation nuclear reactors into naval ships. This project underscores Fincantieri’s commitment to pioneering advancements in shipbuilding technology.
