Ferrero Acquires WK Kellogg in $3.1 Billion Deal
Milan: Italian confectionery giant Ferrero has reached an agreement to purchase American cereal maker WK Kellogg at a price of $23 per share, the two groups announced in a joint statement. The transaction, valued at 3.1 billion euros, has received approval from the board of WK Kellogg.
According to Ansa News Agency, the acquisition aims to support Ferrero’s portfolio expansion and growth in North America by adding WK Kellogg Co’s complementary, iconic cereal brands. These brands, which include Corn Flakes, Froot Loops, and Frosted Flakes, will enable Ferrero to serve consumers across more occasions throughout the day. Ferrero’s existing brands include Ferrero Rocher and Nutella, which are well-established globally.
Following a 2023 spin-off, WK Kellogg has managed the North American business of these cereal brands, while another group, Kellanova, markets them in other regions worldwide. Giovanni Ferrero, Chairman of Ferrero, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, noting that it represents the union of two companies with proud legacies and generations of loyal consumers.
Ferrero has been expanding its presence in North America in recent years, integrating its global brands with local U.S. favorites. The acquisition of WK Kellogg marks a significant milestone in this journey, bolstering Ferrero’s confidence in future opportunities within the market.
