Feltri’s Comment on Femicide Targets Sparks Outrage Says AVS

Rome: The Green-Left Alliance (AVS) on Friday expressed strong disapproval, labeling it “unacceptable” that veteran conservative journalist Vittorio Feltri responded with “my house, if they’re hot” when questioned about where domestic abuse survivors and potential femicide victims might seek refuge if they found churches and pharmacies closed. This inquiry arose following a controversial suggestion by Italy’s justice minister, amid concerns over police understaffing.

According to Ansa News Agency, Feltri, 81, the former editor of conservative newspapers Il Giornale and Libero, made this controversial statement during an appearance on Rai state TV. The question posed to him was regarding the options available to women fearing attacks when alerted by their ex-partners’ or stalkers’ electronic tags. Justice Minister Carlo Nordio had suggested that churches and pharmacies could serve as refuges, acknowledging the challenges faced by understaffed police forces in reaching these women promptly.

Feltri’s response, directed to Piero Chiambretti, the host of the show “Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown” on Rai3, has prompted AVS to announce their intention to file a complaint with the Rai parliamentary watchdog. Feltri is known for his controversial and often provocative remarks, which have frequently drawn public criticism.
