EU Regrets US Sanctions on UN Rapporteur Albanese for Gaza Comments

Brussels: The EU said Friday it regretted US sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the Italian-born UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, whom Washington accuses of antisemitism for denouncing alleged “genocide” in Gaza.

According to Ansa News Agency, “The EU strongly supports the United Nations human rights system and deeply regrets the decision to impose sanctions on Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories,” European Commission Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said during a daily press briefing.

“The EU,” he added, “continues to support efforts to undertake independent investigations into violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, including those that may constitute international crimes.”
