The EU imported 2.7 million tons of coffee last year, worth pound 10.6 billion ($11.7 billion), Eurostat announced on Tuesday.
While the amount of imported coffee was almost same as the previous year, the value increased from pound 7.3 billion.
Brazil, Vietnam, and Uganda were top three import sources for the 27-member bloc last year, with shares of 34%, 24%, and 8%, respectively.
Germany was the main importer of coffee, with around a third of these imports, or 33%, followed by Italy with 23% and Belgium with 10%.
“In 2023, over 2.3 million tonnes of coffee, decaffeinated or roasted were produced in the EU,” Eurostat said.
The amount was up 15% from 2013, equivalent to around 5 kilograms per inhabitant in 2023, it added.
Italy produced the most roasted coffee in 2023 with 25%, followed by Germany with 22% and France with 6%.
