EU Ambassador and Tunisian Parliament President Discuss Strengthening Ties
Tunis: In a recent meeting, the European Union Ambassador to Tunisia, Giuseppe Perrone, and the President of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (ARP), Brahim Bouderbala, emphasized the robust cooperation between Tunisia and the EU, highlighting its continuous development across multiple sectors such as economic, commercial, cultural, and academic fields.
According to Ansa News Agency, Bouderbala underscored the importance of inter-parliamentary relations in enhancing Tunisian-European cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels. He stressed the necessity for the Assembly to establish a parliamentary cooperation group with EU Member States to achieve set objectives and leverage parliamentary diplomacy effectively.
Perrone expressed satisfaction with the progress in Tunisia-EU cooperation, which is founded on partnership and mutual respect. He highlighted the ongoing efforts and initiatives to strengthen this relationship through constant communication among officials, institutions, and organizations. Additionally, the ambassador recognized the crucial role of parliamentarians in fortifying these ties and welcomed the creation of the Parliamentary Cooperation Group with EU Member States.
Furthermore, Perrone announced an upcoming visit by Italian MEPs Giorgio Gori and Ruggero Razza to Tunisia from April 28 to 30. He expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity for deeper dialogue and discussions on enhancing cooperation between Tunisian and European parliamentarians.
The ambassador also emphasized that cooperation between the Mediterranean shores extends beyond migration issues, aiming for a comprehensive partnership benefiting both parties. Bouderbala welcomed the European Parliament delegation’s forthcoming visit to Tunisia, hoping it would pave the way for new avenues in the existing cooperation and provide a platform to address various mutual interests, particularly concerning cooperation, security, and stability in the Mediterranean region.
