Education Minister wishes success to Cypriot Paralympic team
The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, wished the Cypriot Paralympic team ”every success” ahead of the start of the 17th Paralympic Games, in Paris.
Asked by the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the Minister of Education said that “we wish the best to our two female athletes, Karolina Pelendritou and Maria Markou, and to our male athlete, Viktoras Pentaras.”
“Their effort is much more appreciated than anything else that takes place at the Olympic level, because we realize the extra effort that is being made. We are sure that they will do everything in their power to honour themselves first of all and our country”, she added.
Furthermore, the Minister of Education said that our athletes are already winners.
“Each and every one of them has already proven their worth. They have distinguished themselves to be there. We wish every success for the best,” she pointed out.
Karolina Pelendritou is the first Cypriot athlete to compete. Specifically, she competes on August 31 in the qualifiers
in the S11 category at 50m. freestyle, while on September 5th she will compete in the qualifiers in the SB11 category in the 100m breaststroke. The finals of the two events are on the same day.
Maria Markou will compete on September 6 directly in the final of the bench press in the 61 kg category, while 24-year-old Viktoras Pentaras will compete on September 3 directly in the final of the long jump in the T37 category.
