Diabolik Killer Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in Rome

Rome: The Court of Assizes of Rome has sentenced Raul Esteban Calderon, an Argentine citizen, to life imprisonment for the murder of Fabrizio ‘Diabolik’ Piscitelli. Piscitelli, a Lazio ultra, was killed in an ambush in Rome in August 2019.

According to Ansa News Agency, Calderon was not found to have used mafia methods in the execution of the murder. Piscitelli, nicknamed after a cult comics antihero, was believed to have been a victim of a feud among members of far-right Roman organized crime, political, and ultra circles.

Anti-mafia prosecutors had initially charged Calderon with premeditated murder aggravated by mafia methods, as well as illegal weapons possession. Calderon has also been indicted for the murder of another alleged member of Rome’s criminal underworld, Albanian Shehay Selavdi, at Torvajanica on September 20, 2020. This crime was allegedly carried out with the assistance of other suspected criminals Enrico Bennato and Giuseppe Molisso.
