Congratulatory messages from heads of state for Cyprus Independence Day


President Nikos Christodoulides has received congratulatory messages from the heads of state of Germany, Italy, China, Egypt, India, Jordan and Oman on the occasion of Cyprus’ Independence Day, celebrated on October 1st, the Presidency has said in a press release.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella speaks of the common Mediterranean roots between Cypriots and Italians, recalls the greatest EU enlargement 20 years ago of which as he notes, Cyprus was a protagonist and expresses the belief that “we will continue to work together for an even more dynamic and integrated Europe, capable of undertaking an enhanced role in the international scene.”

He also expresses the hope that a Cyprus solution for the better coexistence of the two Cypriot communities will be soon reached in the framework of relevant UN resolutions.

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier says that it was his honour to show his appreciation of the friendship between the two countries as the first German President to ever visit Cyprus and th
anks President Christodoulides for his hospitality and support shown towards Germany in the last 12 months.

The enormous challenges of our times make it clear how important friendly ties and the close relationship between our two countries are. I am glad we can count on each other, he adds.

In his message, Xi Jinping, President of China, speaks about the longstanding traditional friendship between the two countries. Mutual respect, trust, friendship and cooperation are defining characteristics of relations between China and Cyprus, he says, according to a Presidency press release.

Xi adds that he attributes great importance in further growing bilateral relations and expresses readiness to work together to strongly support the main interests of each country and to expand exchanges and cooperation in all sectors, constantly enriching our strategic partnership and jointly promoting the proper and steady development of EU – China relations.

In his message, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi says the two
countries are connected in a longstanding and powerful friendship which has been enhanced throughout the years by mutual respect and trust and a continuous coordination on matters of common interest.

It is his conviction, he adds, that through making the most of our efforts we will be able to expand on and strengthen our bilateral cooperation in various sectors for the benefit of our two peoples.

Indian President Drupadi Murmu stresses among other things that the bilateral relations between the two countries are historic and are based on the common values of democracy, the rule of law and openness.

“Our cooperation is continuously enhance and I am convinced that in the years to come we will witness even greater cooperation between our countries, contributing in this way in peace, prosperity and growth of our states and the region,” she says.
