Congrats to Merz, Let’s Strengthen Ties Says Tajani

Rome: Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Tuesday congratulated Friedrich Merz on his election as German Chancellor at the second ballot and voiced the hope that Germany and Italy can further strengthen ties.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani, who is also deputy premier and leader of the centre-right post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI) party, expressed his sentiments on social media platform X. He remarked, “Congratulations to the new German Chancellor and my friend Friedrich Merz.” Tajani emphasized the beginning of a new political season and highlighted the importance of pragmatism in governance for enhancing the relationship between Italy and Germany.

Tajani further elaborated on the potential benefits of collaboration, stating, “By combining our industrial capabilities we will make Europe stronger.” He extended his best wishes not only to Merz but also to Merz’s colleague Johann Wadephul and the entire team of ministers, signaling a warm and cooperative outlook for future relations between the two nations.
