City of Rome to Pay Homage to Pope Leo on Sunday

Rome: The city of Rome will pay homage to Pope Leo XIV on Sunday.

According to Ansa News Agency, in the Piazza dell’Ara Coeli, at the foot of the steps of the Campidoglio, on Sunday Pope Leo XIV will receive the homage of the City of Rome from the mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, Vatican News reported Thursday.

The Press Office of the Holy See said that the event will be held at 4:15 pm on Sunday 25 May, the day on which the Pontiff will preside over the mass in the Basilica of St. John Lateran and his installation on the Roman Cathedra as bishop of Rome.

Immediately after the liturgy, the Pope will appear from the central Loggia of the Lateran Basilica to bless the city of Rome.

At 7 pm, then, the Pontiff will move to Santa Maria Maggiore for a moment of prayer before the Marian icon of the Salus Populi Romani, which was dear to his predecessor Francis.
