Vatican City: The canonisation of Carlo Acutis, the young ‘Internet saint’, has been postponed following the death of the pope, as announced by the Vatican on Monday. Originally set for Sunday, April 27, the ceremony was eagerly anticipated by many who regard Acutis as a beacon of Christian life.
According to Ansa News Agency, Carlo Acutis, a student from Lombardy who succumbed to leukaemia at the age of 15 in 2006, had previously been beatified on October 10, 2020, in Assisi. He is celebrated as a ‘patron saint of the internet’ due to his profound influence on young believers and his innovative use of technology to spread his faith.
Last May, Pope Francis confirmed that Acutis had met the criteria for sainthood following the ratification of a second miracle attributed to him. This miracle involved the healing of a young girl from Costa Rica, further solidifying Acutis’s journey toward sainthood.
The process of canonisation for Acutis has been notably swift, reflecting the significant impact he has had on the Catholic community.
