Bóka: Bulgaria and Romania’s full membership in the Schengen Area would fulfil a priority of the Hungarian presidency of the European Union. János Bóka, EU Affairs Minister, emphasized the significance of this development in a statement.
According to About Hungary, at a “meeting of historic significance” in Budapest on Friday, the interior ministers of Austria, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria assessed the outcomes of their collaborative efforts against illegal migration. They concluded that there is no barrier to the full Schengen membership of Romania and Bulgaria, Bóka stated in a video shared on Facebook.
Bóka mentioned that an official decision might be made at a meeting of EU interior ministers scheduled for December 12. He expressed anticipation for the full Schengen membership of Bulgaria and Romania, which is expected to commence on January 1, 2025.
