Brescia Police Deny Allegations of Brutality

Brescia: The central police department of Brescia on Tuesday denied allegations of police brutality made by pro-Palestinian and environmental activists who claimed they were subjected to abusive behavior by law enforcement officials while being held for a few hours after a demonstration on Monday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the department stated that it conducted its investigative activities appropriately, respecting the rights and dignity of individuals. This response came after specific allegations from female activists, who claimed they were forced by officers to exercise and squat without underwear.

The police department further dismissed the claims made in a video and a statement released to the press, asserting that the described actions do not represent the conduct of the Brescia police department and its officers.

The department also announced that it would refrain from commenting further on the allegations, maintaining that respect for people’s rights was consistently upheld. They emphasized that all operations were documented in precise reports by the appropriate offices.

The accusations of mistreatment were brought forward by activists from Extinction Rebellion and Ultima Generazione, as well as pro-Palestinian demonstrators. These groups were detained by police after staging a protest in front of the Brescia location of Italian defense company Leonardo Spa.
