He will present a monologue about St Peter, marking the conclusion of the Roman Catholic Jubilee Holy Year in December. This announcement was made by Rai Managing Director Giampaolo Rossi on Friday.

According to Ansa News Agency, Rossi emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “It will be an extraordinary event with Roberto Benigni who tells the story of Peter from the heart of the Vatican.” The monologue will be a prime-time feature on Rai1, celebrating the closing of the Jubilee. Rossi further expressed his determination to bring Benigni back to Rai, highlighting the actor’s decade-long absence from the network. He described Benigni as “the interpreter of the figure of Peter,” delivering a narrative that intertwines art and faith from the symbolic heart of the Vatican, fulfilling the role of public service.

Roberto Benigni, known for his Oscar-winning film “Life Is Beautiful,” is a 72-year-old Tuscan who has captivated audiences with his dynamic performances. His previous monologue on “Europe, The Dream” on Raiuno in March attracted a substantial viewership. Benigni has also achieved record figures with his monologues on Dante and the Italian Constitution and has been a lively guest at the Sanremo Song Festival multiple times.
