Bangladeshi Factory Worker Sentenced to 22 1/2 Years for Femicide in Genoa

GENOA: A 44-year-old Bangladeshi factory worker was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison for the femicide of his wife, which he attempted to disguise as a suicide in Genoa two years ago. The court found Ahmed Mustak guilty of murdering his 32-year-old wife, Sharmin Sultana, and misleading authorities by initially claiming her death was a suicide.

According to Ansa News Agency, the prosecutor, Marcello Maresca, had requested a 24-year prison sentence for Mustak. The case revealed that Mustak had altered his account of the events multiple times. Initially, he claimed that Sultana had taken her own life. However, in 2024, he revised his statement, suggesting that her death had been accidental.

In recent statements, Mustak alleged that on the evening of May 5, 2023, Sultana had attacked him, and in an act of self-defense, he caused her to fall by pulling her legs. This latest version of events did not sway the court, which ultimately convicted him of femicide and sentenced him to a lengthy prison term.
