Atmosphere Not Good – Gattuso Ahead of Israel Match

Udine: Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso admitted that his side were contending with a difficult climate in view of their World Cup qualifier against Israel in Udine next Tuesday. Before that match, the Azzurri, who are second in qualifying Group I with nine points, six behind leaders Norway with a game in hand, will face Estonia in Tallinn on Friday.

According to Ansa News Agency, Gattuso addressed the media, expressing his concerns about the atmosphere surrounding the upcoming match. “I will just say (to the players) to work well and try not to be influenced (by the situation),” he stated. The coach emphasized that “the atmosphere is not good,” particularly as they prepare for the crucial match against Israel in Udine.

Gattuso highlighted the pressure his team is under and the necessity to be prepared. He expressed his understanding of the low attendance expected at the stadium, noting, “There won’t be many people (at the match) in Udine.” Despite the challenges, Gattuso remarked on the importance of playing the match to avoid a default loss, saying, “But we have to play this match otherwise we’ll lose it 3-0.”

The coach also commented on the concerning environment, mentioning that “there will be 5,000 people inside the stadium and 10,000 outside,” illustrating the tense situation in Udine as the team faces Israel.
