Assets Worth 71 Million Euros Seized in Chinese Import Tax-Fraud Case

Florence: Finance police said Thursday that they have seized 71 million euros worth of assets from 17 people suspected of involvement in a big ring to avoid value added tax on imports from China. The operation targeted a network believed to be orchestrating a large-scale tax evasion scheme involving goods brought into Italy.

According to Ansa News Agency, the suspects include 13 Chinese nationals and four Italians. They allegedly executed the tax fraud through 29 companies strategically based in the provinces of Florence, Prato, and Rome. The investigation highlights the extensive efforts undertaken by authorities to combat tax evasion and ensure compliance with import regulations.

The finance police’s seizure marks a significant step in dismantling the network accused of defrauding the tax system. The operation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by enforcement agencies in tackling sophisticated tax evasion schemes.
