’12-17 Migrants Missing in Lampedusa Shipwreck’ Says UNHCR

Lampedusa: Some 12-17 migrants are missing after a double shipwreck in which at least 20 people drowned off Lampedusa Wednesday, UNHCR said.

According to Ansa News Agency, “Between 12 and 17 people are missing in the shipwreck off Lampedusa, adding to at least 20 deaths, 8 of whom have already been recovered,” said UNHCR spokesperson Filippo Ungaro. This information was gathered by the organization, which is assisting the 60 survivors hosted in the hotspot.

The spokesperson further noted that “To date, there have been 675 deaths and missing since the beginning of the year in the central Mediterranean.”
